LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted Intrastromal Keratomileusis. In this procedure, a microkeratome 1st creates a thin cap of corneal tissue. The cap is folded back and the laser gently shapes the cornea, altering the shape of the eye. The corneal cap is then returned to the original position adhering speedily without stitches. Since only the edge aroung the corneal flap requirements to heal, visual recovery is rapid and patients report little or no discomfort. LASIK treats low to very high standards of refractive errors.
